There is no doubt that at least both Brechin and Forfar outspend us, perhaps they are overspending as we did under Baikie or perhaps local businesses are helping out quite a bit.

I agree with realist when he says that it would be a brave man who would hand over a lot of money to the club, I suspect there would have to be strings. I believe we miss the large cheques that used to come the clubs way from the supporters club (btw Forfar still get these on at least an annual basis).

We appear to be in a mode of realising 'fiscal sanity' which maybe isn't a bad thing. It is important to try and stick to a budget and surely with good scouting and good contacts players of sufficient ability can be found as there are hundreds supposedly desperate to play league football. I believe Kirk said that he aims to wait until players are more desperate and drop their wage demands somewhat before he makes his final signings. How many useful players will be left at this time and does Kirk have the knowledge to identify them??

First of all well done to Kirkie & Jake and the AFC board for re-signing Skipper John McGlashan as this was a major signing. Although we have made a few signings up to now including some up and coming youngsters i reckon we are still short on experience. Loosing Andy Cargill, Davie King and Iain Daick was a blow and we have still to replace our goalkeeper as Timmy Woodcock still needs another season on the bench and playing in the reserves. As well as experience we still need more height in the team so another big experienced central defender and a big strong fast Striker must be our targets. Also well done to AFC for reconising John McAulay's loyalty to the Red Lichties and awarding him a testimonial which is richly deserved and he will place a major part for the team next season as he always gives 100%. Also great to get a major new sponser (Allstars)and new home strip looks excellent. Hopfully the club and supporters have closer ties this season and it is encouraging to see 2 AFC board members having links between the "36-0" club and the football club and also groundsman Jim getting help from fans in doing odd-jobs at Gayfield Park. Hopefully this season will not have us fighting relegation and all the fans get behind the club.

Might it not be that local business people would be handing over their hard earned cash to a Committee that has no local business people on it and therefor less business accumen as to how to use any financial imput. Sounds like I am having another 'go' at the committee (which I am not) but I dont think there are any folk on it who have made their own money through business. That being the case, and with the Treasurer announcing a bigger bank deficit almost year on year, it would be a rash individual that handed over their own hard earned cash at present.

Why? Why does AFC not attract financial support while Forfar and Brechin apparently do? Is it because, like Farflung said, we voted local business down in the past?

Jobson - agree with you on all counts vis-a-vis Forfar and Brechin (except East Fife). Arbroath has more potential but this has not been realised over the past 25 tears (though th past 6 have not been so bad). Two points though. First we're probably in the right league, with other teams more or less of the same standing. It's actually Forfar and Brechin who have been doing better. But Arbroath's population is 3x Brechin and 2x Forfar so we should also be able to tap more local funding. Second, about 10 years ago, there was a proposal for local businesses to take over the club, which was voted down by the members so we need to be careful but at he moment it looks like we've barely got a basic squad to strt the season while Brechin already look like heavyweight contenders with big name signings. Something is not right in the world.

Farflung, what i mean by "bigger" is Arbroath is over twice the size of population as Forfar and over three times the size of Brechin and has always had bigger crowds than East Fife. I agree both Forfar & Brechin has had more success over the years but that does not make you a "bigger" club. And i have always said the committee on the Arbroath board do a good thankless job but we should maybe try and get some buisnessmen on the board as well.

I can assure lichtophiles that East Fife's wage structure is far less attractive than AFC's. However, and this is no slight on the committee, having a committe rather than a bunch of businessmen as directors mean business contacts are less, that's were Brechin and Forfar get there money.

What makes you say Arbroath is `bigger' than these clubs? Forfar and Brechin have been more successful over the past 10-15 years and seem to have healthier finances, punching above their weight maybe. East Fife come from a bigger population catchment and an impressive history (both Cup and League Cup winners). Maybe we need to be more realistic. Just a thought

Good to see the Brechin Courier, oops I mean Angus Courier mentions Arbroath at last, but sadly its news that has been on here for a week. Dick Campbell must be on holiday or something.

I agree that the dealings of Cargill should be looked into, and also that the dealings regarding the youth player (Graham or Durno?) finding out that they had been released by reading it in the Herald, rather than being told to their face.

It is encouraging to see that we have some new faces in for the new season, but I did hope to see some well known players brought in. I know this doesn't guarantee sucess, but pleases some fans.

I think we stilll need quality players to replace King, Diack, Peat and Cargill. We needed more quality last season, so its an even bigger push this season.

I believed there was a list of 300-400 footballers who had been freed by clubs, Surely there must be a few goalkeepers on that list.

How about getting a keeper in on loan from Dundee or Utd. I know it worked well for Brechin and Ross County last season.

Also Martin Glancy is being freed by Airdrie, would he be the penalty type box poacher we need? peterhead were sniffing around him.

Finally well done to Gavin, for the new look website, the split screen for the guestbooks and other websites is a novel idea, and proves this is the number 1 site for Lichties!

Good points realist. There are always several sides to any story but two disappointing reports from player (Cargill plus a younger one last week) suggest some basic communication deficiency by the manager. If we've lost one of our best players through showing no interest that is unprofessional and major gaps still exist in the squad. As for governance, it depends on others coming forward to show interest and commit the time. Unless there's a choice, we can only appreciate the heavy voluntary commitment of the present committee. But overall, it does not present a rosy picture and can only spread concern about the future direction

Not trying to jump onto the "isnt everything terrible" bandwaggon.. But.. isnt it disapointing that the main news coming out of Gayfield is always pretty negative. Starting the last campaign with no sponsor. Players hearing about their release in the Press rather than from the Manager, players signing for other clubs without the Manager making any effort to keep then till its too late. Signings from teams lower down the leagues than we managed to scrape to ourselves. Committee members going to the Press and saying that the manager would have remained in post even had the club been relegated. A general malaise about the club as a whole where fans suspect (rightly or wrongly) that the ambition of the committee is limited to just ticking things over. Even looking through the Web answers the Committee have given to fans queries (an initiative in itself to be applauded) there seems to be a lack of any drive or pro-action to anything. It always seems that the committee will look at this idea or consider that idea or try to find more information about the next idea. I think that Mr Kinnear should be genuinely thanked for his loyal 20 year service to the club and hope that there is an honarary position offered him. However, having the 3 most influential committee members (secretary, treasurer, president) in position almost imperpituity cannot in itself be a positive force for change. I am also under no illusions as to the amount of free time the committee must dedicate to their (seemingly) thankless task, and No... I dont have the time to do it myself or else I would put my time where my mouth is. Anyhow.. enough of this rant.

Nice to have a discussion going. Just a few points in reply. Steve Kirk exceeded (mine and other) expectations last season and made some good signings - so that's a plus. And I quite agree with the transfer/transactions so far - rhe player re-signed for us are fine and thoise released, no serious gripes. But the squad still has major gaps (in goal, defence, midfield and attack - where else is there). If our class players like Cusick and Cargill remain, I'll be happy. But as Grant says, the same players just avoided relegation last year (and we've lost some - King, Peat) and the other teams are upping the ante - so it will be harder next year. Some of the young players are coming through well (Henslee, McMullen, Swankie) but youth alone is not enough, you need a seasoned squad. My hope is that it's a buyer's market so there are quite a few good and affordable players still available. Finally, we need to get behind the team and players on the field but surely we can raise legitimate questions and discuss them openly here without seeming to undermine them. We should be glad people take an interest at all. Cway the Lichties

First of all, I did not say it was apathy Kamekazi, I very clearly stated, in quotes, that it was the 'seed of apathy'. The beginnings. From little acorns giant oak trees grow and all that. We apparently have nothing to say about who is selected to play for AFC. Our manager and his advisors and our board and finances are in charge of that arena. I was suggesting that to start professing to the manager, the team members, the fans, our opponents, and the WWW that we have a crap team before we even kick a summer training ball is a wee bit counter productive, and, from you Kamekazi - I have read your postings here for years. You are a true and loyal and long serving AFC fan. Guess I was just a little surprised by your statement. I have always thought we had a handful of fine players lacking leadership, which is a general sentiment I have heard you support many times, in your own words of course. Surely that will change now. Kirk has shown himself to make mistakes but the big plus sign out of it all was that, unlike his predecessor, he seemed to learn and adapt and somehow manage the team to a cohesive working unit on quite a few entertaining occasions. And it would appear that the players actually like Kirk, wow, how can we lose?

Also, I notice talk of relegation next season on some of the AFC messageboards. Some people need to lighten up, show some optimism and get behind the team for the forthcoming season.I think you might get a pleasant surprise!

Well mr blank if you're happy with bringing back all of the guys as last season, who almost got us relegated, and adding at least for the moment, untried youngsters then you are easily pleased.

btw apathy is not caring or indifferent you can hardly call people who are worried how things are shaping up, thus far, in the off-season as apathetic. Apathetic are all of the hundreds who would rather watch the rugger or go shopping on Saturday afternoons.

Nobody is shouting at the players here, but neither are some people saying everything is fine here when it obviously isn't.

Kamekazi wrote, "I know money's short but we're still lacking a team, let alone a competitive team." I would call that a 'seed of apathy' and would suggest that noone benefits from sentiments like that (apart from our opponents). I feel good about the 15 men who have so far signed and am looking forward to a great season for AFC. Fully behind every player. Supporting them. Trying my best to make them feel good. Doing otherwise at this early stage, in my opinion, would be following the creed of the 'true Kamekazi' = commiting suicide.

So Brechin continue to be the Chelsea of the scottish second division. Where do a team with paltry crowds get all of the money? When all is said and done though Campbell couldn't do a Brownlie and keep them up in the first (at least for a year) so maybe he can make a mess of it again.

Hopefully the Courier wont be the Brechin News again this year.

On the Arbroath side of things, poor signings so far. We seem to be keeping most of the guys who almost took us down last season and mixing them in with untried youths from other teams, which doesn't look a good mix.

It's a poor situation when all of the much smaller (population and crowds) angus clubs seem to have a lot more to offer in the way of wages than Arbroath but guess we will just have to get used to it.

Good news for Arbroath, New faces and Mclean retained!

from the courier

Arbroath Manager Steve Kirk yesterday expressed quiet satisfaction at the progress he has made toward retaining and recruiting players for next season’s second division challenge.

Having avoided relegation by the narrowest of margins with a final-day win over Berwick Rangers, Kirk is hopeful that a combination of old stalwarts and new faces will give the Lichties the impetus to improve on last season’s disappointing showing.

He said, “I think I’ve already got the basis for a decent squad with Duncan McLean, John McGlashan, Gavin Swankie, Greg Miller, Greig Henslee, Paul Farquharson, Timmy Woodcock and Kevin McMullen all having agreed terms to stay at Gayfield.

“John McAuley will be staying on as well for what will be his 10th season at Arbroath, which speaks volumes about his committment and loyalty to the club.”

Kirk has also signed 22-year-old midfielder Gavin Beith, who will be looking to impress at Gayfield having first been released by Dundee when the Dens Park club went into administration and then freed by Brechin earlier this month.

With Brechin having now joined Arbroath in division two, Beith is relishing the chance to prove Kirk’s gain will be Dick Campbell’s loss.

Arbroath have also signed young ex-Dunfermline centre-back Jamie Bishop who, Kirk hopes, will slot into the role filled by Dave King prior to his signing a pre-contract agree with Angus rivals Forfar.

Kirk said he was still waiting for official confirmation of the news that out-of-contract midfielder Iain Diack, who was an influential player for the club last season, had been invited to train with English third division outfit Barnet.

He said, “I haven’t spoken to Iain this week but there is still a place for him at Gayfield and he is certainly one of those I would want to keep.”

That shows that there is no loyalty left in football now. Dave King was a junior last season and got his senior break when signed by Brownlie/Kirk. Even although he was a good player he just deserts us to Forfar without giving AFC a chance to re-sign him. He should hang his head in shame.

If thats true about King, thats a big blow for Arbroath, he was one of the most consistant performers last season. Also means we have to sign another defender now as well!

Hopefully we can get some decent players for free with all clubs freeing most of their squads.

re Dave King-I saw the same thing. That is bad news indeed, thanks for the brief memories Dave!

Does anyone know for sure that we've signed anyone other than the four announced by the secretary and Rennie who had a 2 year deal??

Some announcements on the official site might be helpful to clear up this who's gone and who's here etc.

GAYFIELD PARK SHORTLISTED FOR 2nd DIVISION PITCH OF THE YEAR AWARD. In his 1st year as Arbroath FC Groundsman, Jimmy Gauld has done a remarkable job in raising the profile of the Gayfield playing surface through his many hours of dedicated work and commitment, with little in the way of resources available. Subsequently, Arbroath FC are now in the running for the 2nd Division pitch of the year award after being nominated by officials and visiting managers over the course of the season. One official commented back in November that he had never seen a pitch in such a good condition at that time of year. The award committee visited Gayfield on Monday afternoon to look at the pitch and interview Jimmy. The winner of the award will either be Gayfield or Cappielow and it is expected that the result will be announced by the end of May.

Fantastic news that Skipper John McGlashan and Loyal John McAulay have re-signed for the Red Lichties for another season. Well done also to Steve Kirk/Jake Ferrier and the AFC committee for getting those two 110% players signed up also. I noticed that big Andy Smith has been freed by Clyde and also ex- AFC hero Colin McKinnon from Stirling Albion, now that would be a good strikeforce.

I didnt really have a problem with Kirky getting the job for another season until I read his thoughts on the Official site. He said he felt last season was "tiresome." If he is finding the job tiresome should he be carrying on with it ?? I hope he just meant it was tiring.

I'll tell you what's tiresome & tiring though - driving up to Arbroath from Edinburgh in the middle of Winter and watching your team get skelpt 4 - 1 by Spartans. But then again that's football.

To end on a positive note the teams form in the last 10 matches was encouraging on the whole, with 5 wins and a couple of draws if my memory serves.

Although it was a bizzare statement by the President ("the Management team stayed because they kept us in Div.2, but they would have stayed even if we got relegated"???!!??), lets give Steve Kirk a chance. His signings can be no worse than John Brownlies. We definitly need a big powerfull central defender and a big powerfull fast striker, they are our main targets. I am struggling to think on when we scored from a corner kick or free kick delivered into the box last season. But this season will be Steve Kirks & Jake Ferriers team as they will have got rid of who they do not want and will sign the guys that they want so lets see what happens.

So Kirk and Ferrier remain, what do results and dwindling gates count for anyway?

I suppose the consolation is that although Kirk remains, he would have remained even if we had been relegated (according to the president) so this is in a way the best case scenario (the glass is half full).

Let's take care of signing the few good players we have and get some new players in who will give 100%.

No indication of budget or potential squad size yet. What transpires as regards signings over the summer will no doubt be interesting.

Looking forward to the AGM and some decent friendlies.

John McAulay always gives Arbroath FC 110% and has stuck with the club since they were in East Sirlings position. He IS the player who deserves a testimonial from the club and not forgetting he is a very good versitile player who never lets you down. He DESERVES to be offered a new contract and as well as Big John McGlashan he is alawys the first to applaud the Red Lichtie fans at the start or end of a game.

Good result on Sunday, need to sign McLean if possible and maybe Colin McKinnon who has always done well for us. Swankie should get a regular game and "Henner" Henslee should start more often. Get rid of Euan Graham, played against him a t sunday boys level and he was the second biggest pansie on the pitch, just behind Kevin Webster who once got substituted as he was crying due to the rain! Is he still playing for Montrose? How apt.

I also felt he protected Peat on Saturday and Cusick looked far more comfortable when things changed in the second half. I can't believe someone criticised John McAulay, he might not be the quickest or best in the air, but he makes up for it with his anticipation and reading of the game. His distribution is better than other defenders too, giving the strikers a chance when he does send a long ball. I would have him as sweeper behind King and Rennie at the start of next season. Andy Cargill can GTF aswell, he's no looked interested since we lost to Forfar a couple of months back.

Well done guys you showed real spirit today to come back. Good to see Andy Webster in the stand supporting the Lichties. Who was the prize clown that abused the manager when he swapped Henna for Swankie?? Henna was having a totally average game and didnt look like creating anything in a match we had to win. Gav came on and gave us width and pace well done Kirkie play your game mate!! Mike Cargill had nothing to do with Arbroath at this point but he managed 2 get his own son Chris in cos hes a Keeper shit 1 at tht! More shocked than disappointed by Saturday's inept display. Various minkers had travelled from afar to witness a glorious escape from the nighmares of relegation. What we saw was simply hopeless and hapless. Mindless hoofin' of the ball up to front runners who either weren't interested or weren't up to it. The bogtrotters won at a canter and I do despair for our prospects at Berwick. The sendings off didn't help but we were well beaten even by then. Nothing short of a Damascian conversion will be required to pull this one off. But the pies were good and we ate a lot of them.

On today's peformance we need a good clean out. There was no midfield dominance today despite havng our "dream" 3. There was again no leadership on the field. Cusick and Cargill have failed to deliver this season and fans should accept that. There was a spell in the first half when Cargill "lost" it but calmed down. Once he was booked bets were off and so was he. Rennie is the only player contracted for next season which is a shame as he never covered himself with glory today (probably why Falkirk got shot of him). Hinchie was a one off but alas Peat is no replacement. We are in our current predicament as the players have not delivered at Gayfield this season. Fans should forget about nostalga and look forward - we want to see leadership, fighting performances (legal within play), solid defendng, creative midfield play and forwards scoring and not humiliating thrashings by Spartans, Aidrie and Dumbaton at Gayfield. Vsits to Forfar and Brechin are more appealing than Gretna and Cowdenbeath but it looks as if local derbies aganst Montrose could be on the cards for next season.

Apart from Spartans this was one of the worst displays of a poor season. Dumbarton were far more up for the match and made our crew look terrible.

Dodgy keeper.

Our defence is weak and disjointed. Very rarely do one of their passes find anyone and they seemed to get carved open very easily.

Midfield is non existant, filled with haddies (Cusick and Cargill are past their best)

The stikers, well not many defences will lose sleep over the pair that started today ( watch out , another long ball over the top which is easliy dealt with by the defence)

Team spirit and a will to win is not that apparent.

I'm unsure if we should get rid of Kirk now and start next season with a totally clean slate, or if we should allow him to get his own players in.

I've never submitted such a negative comment as this and am disappointed that I, along with many others, feel like this about the team.

Nightshift next weekend so won't be going to Berwick but will go to Stenny to support the other maroon team. More chance of seeing them winning (hopefully).

That was a shocking display today! Far too many players carrying injuries and far too many not showing any application.

Neither forward looked like they wanted to put in a challenge at any point and didn't even give nuisance value.

It comes down to the same thing if Kirkie cant get the players to play then he should be gone!

I suggest two things for training this week, McCulloch and Miller work on passing a ball to each other wearing maroon shirts starting at a distance of two or three yards and see if they can get the hang of it. Secondly practice defending corners/crosses especially with the defenders who will be playing next week.

Sort it out Kirkie before it's too late!!

One off special top

Tomorrow in the club shop I will have a top which is the same as the ones the players wear to travel to matches, but also has 125th anniversary stitched into it. It is one of only three made and the only one being made available for fans to buy. We`ve decided to sell it off by silent auction. Fans can come into the shop before the game and at half time to place a bid then at full time the top will be sold to the person who has made the highest bid. The money raised will then go towards Youth Development.

ouch!

Unlucky Eddie Forrest is again looking for a new club after being told he is one of six players not to have their contracts renewed by Partick Thistle. The defender was at Airdrieonians when they were went into provisional liquidation and was one of 19 players axed by Motherwell's administrator.

He then left Arbroath thinking he was signing for Raith Rovers, only to find he was the victim of a hoax call.

Thistle stepped in last July, but he has made only three first-team starts.

His return to the Scottish Premier League with the Glasgow club was not without drama, when he was one of a group of players who got lost on a pre-season training exercise.

A good result yesterday! I thought the team were up for it, although they should be.

It was a classic derby game with several candidates for red cards. I think if the linesman hadn't been so shy with his flag that 2 or 3 could have been gone early. The ref struggled to keep up with play also IMO. But these are familiar gripes!

Next week is the huge game now, as we dont want to have to do something at Berwick to insure safety.

Sensible refereeing worth a mention - first time in weeks. we've two tough games left and E Fife two easy ones so, with their superior goal difference, we can't relax (we need 2 points which is harder than it sounds). But a major step forward today

I could not believe my eyes reading the match programme against Stenny and Greig Henslee admitting that the team he supported as a boy was SCUMTROSE!!. The only way you will be forgiven for that is if Henslee scores the winner against the farmer boys at Station Park on Saturday. C'MON THE RED LICHTIES.

I agree about the miss and his attitude going off, but at 1-0 down with 10 men I'd have taken off Swankie and stuck with McLeod and Diack up front. We were easily holding Stenny in midfield. Diack's goals have made the difference between a fighting chance to avoid relegation and no chance at all, so I can understand his reluctance to go, but not condone it. As it turned out Kirkie was probably right.

after a fighting performance from the team yesterday i dont wish to be a judas but diacks miss was disgracefull. he was to busy posing ,looking directly into the crowd and concentrating on his goal celebration to bother about following the ball.his reaction at being subbed was piss poor. For once kirkie got the substitution right. yes blame the ref. steny cheating b*****ds, and curse our luck but that miss alone cost us. What do others think ????/

I was at Arbroath for the game v Stenny. The referee did deny Arbroath a certain penalty but the truth is Arbroath played very much like a Division 3 outfit, even allowing for the fact they had 10 men for a good part of ther game.

Stenny, of course, just do not possess any players who can pose a serious attacking threat.

I have seen Arbroath lose at Ochilview this season and they played better that day than in the 1-1 draw at Gayfield.

I hope you survive since East Fife are more limited in ideas and besides Arbroath need another season to regroup after relegation.

mmmmmmm where do I start my moan tonight.

Having witnessed some of the worst refereeing all season at Gayfield today, which in itself takes a lot of beating and maybe worse that HE is meant to be one of Scotland’s best whistler, was he annoyed as he didn’t get tannadice, and instead of getting to book ricksen and co, thought he would make a basement battle into more of a newsworthy game.

Arbroath deserved so much from this today, we were unlucky to leave without full points, missed chances by some great play, some determination and desire which I hope is there for all the last three matches and some of the worst un-sportsmanship I think you could get.

The report sums things up perfectly, expect I think when the guy run through on Peat it was at least 5-7 minutes after the 45th minute. Why Peat got sent off, when McLean got decked when he was clean through and his assailant only got yellow beats me, and when Rennie almost got chopped in half, the guy walks away free.

The worst thing was the whole farce at the end with the number 5 and the physio asking for a stretcher, when after he got up, and ran back on to the pitch, right when Arbroath were breaking, there antics were really disgusting especially the number 3 who flyer nailed. He also got another two of them at once, and I think I am right in saying everyone in the ground wanted to do that.

The passion and desire that I seen from the whole team, but especially Flyer, Henslee, Mcglashan and Rennie is what we need against Forfar next week.

And why oh why does a player in the second division get to have a No. 20 Jersey?????

The '36-0' Club End of Season Awards are taking place on Saturday 8th May at the Portcullis Function Suite, with the starting time being 7pm. Members (plus partner) will get in for free. Non-members wishing to go, should see myself or Sandy about purchasing a ticket. Tickets cost £3, and anyone wanting one should act fast as the tickets are limited and will sell like hot cakes. We have arranged a SPECIAL GUEST to present the awards to the winners (Player of the Year, runner-up Player of the Year, Young Player of the Year and Top Goalscorer). There will also be a buffet for everyone to tuck into. This is a great chance to mingle with the team, and everyone associated with the club (if they can make it). Its also a great chance to get merry and celebrate the 'broath staying up!!

"Steven Rennie is on a two year contract and has one year to run at the end of this season. John Cusick, Andy Cargill and John McGlashan are all coming to the end of 2 year contracts"

That was from February's Question and Answer's on the official AFC website. Surely we need to keep Peat, King, Rennie, McMullen, Henslee,Cargill, McGlashan, Cusick, all signed up again for next season.

I think the young players and under 19's still should be kept on as they are the future and some deserve a chance to play in the first team.

I think that McLean's contract with Dundee ends in the summer, so he will be a free agent, and it looks like Diack is off to England.

There is bound to be a number of players released by clubs this summer in order of cutting debts, of course our appeal will lay in what division we will be in.

So come on all you lichites, its not been the best of season, but its not too late, so get down to Gayfield on Saturday, and support your local team, I'll be there!

Why has Brechin City & Forfar been re-signing players and looking at players for next season when the only news coming from Gayfield Park is "silence"?. I have been told on good authority that Ayr Utd, Peterhead & Forfar are all after Andy Cargill. If the like of him goes without Arbroath FC putting up a fight to keep him i know of a lot of fans who will not be back.

Fao Mc ,I think you have went overboard by a mile when you say the current coach u19s has turned thing's around.FACT! the 19s in the league only beat 3 team's Peterhead,Elgin and Brechin,Drew with Airdrie and Forfar and lost to all else.FACT! in the cup section the 19s beat the 3 same team's again and drew with Forfar and remember these 3 team's finished below smokies in the 19s league. It was just lucky they were drawn against these team's again,or no wins might of came. The current coach used more players than Wallace ever did.So whats the weather like on your planet?turned things round ? Hardly

When gordon wallace had a succesfull youth team 2 seasons ago ( swanks, hener,e.grahmn, flyer etc..) they were all full time . thats was scrapped last season... hence him leaving for raith ( full time club) also he needed a hip replacement for the sake of his health, his bad hip was down to a great playing career! mon the lichties !

oop's forgot my marks for Saturdays game :-

Peat 5, McMullan 5, King 5, Rennie 5, Graham 4, Cargill 6, Cusick 8, McGlashan 6, McCulloch 7, Mclean 8, Henslee 7, subs, Swankie 8, Miller 3, Farky 3.

The club must hang on to Cusick, Cargill & McGlashan at all costs for next season (hopefully still in the 2nd division).

Could not agree with weller more on his comments. I thought McCulloch before his injury, Cusie, McLean & Swankie were excellent. I would still start with Diack & McLean up front against Stenny on Saturday though with hopefully Farky on the wing and bring Swankie on later (as he seems more of a danger when he comes on as a sub). I heard a lot of people complaining about the 36-0 club not running more buses to the game against East Fife on Saturday. Although i travelled by car i got told it was because they were playing a football match against East Fife fans on Saturday morning in Methil. Surely the Arbroath FC committee could have organised buses for this "must-win" game as the Manager was appealing for a big travelling support and other clubs like Dundee, Dundee Utd, Brechin, Forfar & Scumtrose have all done this in the past so why did Arbroath FC not do the same?.

Brilliant lads, a great and important 3 points against East Fife on Saturday. But we must treat every game now as a cup final starting on Saturday against Stenny. Captain Marvel/Mountain McGlashan will have the boys right up for it. The 300 travelling Red Lichties fans at New Bayview were on the edge of their seats for 90 minutes but although we never played good football it was the result which mattered most. I thought Henslee, McCulloch (until he went off injured) played well but i thought the main 3 players were John Cusick (marshalled the game superb) and Duncan McLean (whose pace and goals destroyed the Fifers), but i would give my M.O.M. to Gavin Swankie who totaly turned the game in the 2nd half and showed good fighting abilty to go with his undoubted skill. Come on lads lets get the 3 points on Saturday to put real pressure on the other teams.

your segregration and stewarding is appalling. you are complaining about airdrie fans being everywhere - your boys walked round from behind one goal to the other - were you looking for trouble? also the gents toilet (again) was out of action at the so called away end. get your house in order and then start complaining about the away fans who well outnumber your home support.

as for your team i dont think you are that bad and hope you stay up so good luck against east fife. i hope you manage to get your stadium and stewarding in order.
